Our story
Inspired by Martin Scorsese's 1990 masterpiece film, GoodFellas, our restaurant is more than just a place to eat. It's a tribute to cinematic history and timeless Italian tradition. Originally opened in 1991 by Dr. Daniel P. Conte, who appeared in the film as "Dr. Dan" and his brother Dr. Kenneth S. Conte. GoodFellas NJ is now operated by his son Dr. Daniel P. Conte, III keeping the family legacy alive.
As far back as I can remember, my dad, Dr. Daniel P. Conte (Dr. Dan), always wanted to be a physician, a movie actor, and own a restaurant. Just as Henry Hill and Martin Scorsese, Dr. Dan “grew up with that peculiarly American desire never to be a disappointment to themselves.” From opening his medical practice in 1964, to friendships with Tommy DeVito, Joe Pesci, Frankie Valli, and Frank Vincent that landed him backstage with the Four Seasons, to roles in films like Death Collector, Raging Bull, GoodFellas, and Casino, and ultimately as Faustino “Doc” Santoro in The Sopranos – he shined like a bright star.
After his role in GoodFellas as the character “Dr. Dan,” one of Cicero’s ‘50’s crew pictured on the front of the card, he opened this restaurant in December 1991. It is a great privilege to continue my dad’s GoodFellas legacy with you – celebrating with food, drinks, friendship, and calling you “one of us!”
